If you are like a lot of people, the quality of the air that you breathe is probably really important to you. Nowadays, it can be tricky to find a place to live or vacation that offers fresh and clean air, but this is something that you can find if you head to Western North Carolina. Along with enjoying the fresh and clean air, you are sure to love other things about this beautiful area as well.

Because there aren’t as many businesses, factories or people in Western North Carolina as there are in many other places, you don’t have to worry about as much air pollution. Because of its location in the mountains, you can also enjoy better air.

Along with enjoying better air, you are also sure to enjoy the climate in the area. The summers are warm but much cooler than in many other places in North Carolina, and the winters are chilly but relatively mild when compared to other areas. This makes for a great place to live or vacation, no matter what time of year it is.

There are also lots of beautiful sights to enjoy in Western North Carolina, so you should consider looking for a home there or taking a trip there sometime soon.

A hike in western North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest is the perfect way to revive yourself! The forest contains over 500,000 acres of land, including areas surrounding the French Broad River Valley and the town of Asheville. There are hundreds of trails available for hiking within Pisgah National Forest, with trailheads in the Appalachian, Grandfather and Pisgah Districts. The Appalachian District features a nice combination of popular hiking trails and seldom used trails. A highlight of this district is the trail that climbs up Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the eastern United States.
The Grandfather District contains several scenic trails to revive yourself, including a beautiful hike to Catawba Falls which features two of the region’s most significant waterfalls. There are also excellent hikes in the Linville Gorge area, with rim trails that provide amazing views into the gorge. The Pisgah District contains the most popular hiking in the area due to its many wilderness areas, beautiful vantage points and historic points of interest. The hikes in the Pisgah District feature multiple waterfalls, peaks, cliffs, small river gorges and just about everything else imaginable.

Maggie Valley is an overlooked vacation destination in North Carolina. Here are a few reasons we think you should consider bringing your family here the next time you need a mountain getaway:
It’s not in the middle of nowhere: You can get http://www.satellitestarinternet.com/ service at most cabins and it’s only a ten minute drive from the top of a mountain down to restaurants. That’s convenience that makes a great vacation.
Prices are Reasonable: Some vacation cabins get pricey, particularly in the Asheville area, but in Maggie Valley you can still rent a huge place for an entire weekend (multiple families) for less than a thousand bucks. Saving on your vacation means you can spend more on the other activities you came there to do.
There’s Skiing!: Speaking of activities, skiing at Cataloochee Valley is right in Maggie Valley’s backyard. Get on the slopes with your whole family or head to the tubers world if you’re not good enough on skis yet. It’s cheaper and less crowded than some other West Virginia options so we think it makes for a great ski weekend.

North Carolina, located in the southeastern section of the United States, shares one of the world’s natural wonders with its neighbor, Tennessee. Beautiful and majestic, the Great Smoky Mountains stretch from Pigeon River, in North Carolina, to the Little Tennessee River. The Smoky Mountains are famous and take their name from the great bluish clouds and plumes of smoke that hang over its peaks; this natural effect is the result of the warm air from the Gulf of Mexico rapidly cooling in the high elevation. The Great Smoky Mountains are generally known for hiking, camping, rafting, and scenic drives. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is also an attractive and popular tourist destination. However, nature is not the only activity in this beautiful southern mountain range. Tucked away in the foothills you can find casinos. All the glamour and glitz of Las Vegas or Atlantic City is hidden away in this famous mountain range. If you are tired of nature and the outdoors why not spend an evening playing slot machines or video poker? The lively sounds of casino entertainment are hidden and waiting to be explored. For one night replace the sounds of nature with the sounds of nightlife.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is an almost indescribable stretch of roadway meandering for approximately 469 miles from the southern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and having 125 miles within the borders of western North Carolina. As you drive along this two-lane highway, not only is the scenery breathtaking from early spring to late fall, but there are no 18-wheelers or product and business advertisement billboards to be found. The parkway which is celebrating its 75 anniversary of construction in 2011, is home to the only river east of the Mississippi which flows north instead of south.

From mile marker 5.8 (Virginia) to North Carolina 272.5, the rural life of mountain folks from the early 1900s was carefully and often painstakingly preserved as the parkway was carved through the mountains. Visitors are afforded the opportunity to enter log cabins and view demonstrations ranging from family and animal care to candle making.

Two other extremely interesting and unexplainable places to visit are Mystery Hill and Blowing Rock where the wind defies the laws of science. Here it is possible to see balls roll uphill, and cars parked at the bottom of a hill to be drawn back to the top by the wind.

This home, built in the late 1890s in Ashville, North Carolina is believed to be the largest home in America. Originally part of a 175,000 acre estate, the house itself occupies 4 acres of land.

If you want to experience something special that you can’t find anywhere else, you need to come and spend some time at Biltmore Estates in North Carolina. This gorgeous old estate has been around since before the turn of the century. Every year, more and more visitors come and are in complete awe at what they find. Beauty and history are all mixed into one amazing package. The mountains and the Biltmore gardens are a great combination.

You can come for the day and enjoy dinner or just walk around the grounds. The trails are easy to find and biking, walking and hiking are easy for the whole family. You can bring your dog but you will want to include a leash.

The Biltmore is still owned by the same family that built it years ago. It has been past down through three generations. Family members know how important it is to share this piece of history. They are committed to retaining all the natural beauty of the area without out sacrificing their ability to let the public be apart of this great wonder. So you are invited to come and walk, hike and just take in the beauty of the estate while you step back into a piece of North Carolina’s history.
